The Sprint Backlog is owned by the Development Team. This is because the Sprint Backlog is a dynamic list of items selected from the Product Backlog that the team commits to completing in the current Sprint. The Development Team has full autonomy over how they organize their work during the Sprint, and they are responsible for the content and management of the Sprint Backlog.

The Development Team decides how much work they can take on during the Sprint and which tasks will be necessary to complete the selected Product Backlog items. They may update the Sprint Backlog throughout the Sprint as their understanding of the work evolves. This ownership allows the Development Team to be self-organizing and take accountability for their commitments, which is a foundational aspect of Scrum.

The other roles in Scrum, such as the Product Owner and the Scrum Master, have different responsibilities. The Product Owner is responsible for managing the Product Backlog and ensuring that the team works on the highest-value items. The Scrum Master facilitates the Scrum process and helps the team adhere to the Scrum framework, but they do not own the Sprint Backlog or dictate how the team should carry out their work. A Project Manager is not a role in Scrum and typically does not have authority over the team’s planning or execution processes as described
